Happy Mother's Day! Right now my mom is probably out with her dance classmates having a drink. I'm thirteen hours behind her, sitting at my desk having eaten a carton of natto for breakfast, sensing the beginnings of a head cold.
Last night I cooked for people! Nix came over and I made teriyaki chicken, lotus root kinpira and tofu salad for three (include Melanie). I was in that kitchen from like 5:30 to 7, cooking with the stereo on. I really reminded myself of my mom, except that Mom would be listening to baseball, not indie rock, and wouldn't be screwing up the teriyaki as bad as I did.
Now that I'm living alone my days end later and start earlier than they did on-campus. I realize now that I'm naturally an early-bird--I'd been waking up at around 7:30 the first week I lived here; today I slept in until maybe 8:30. It's nice to be able to get up and do stuff without worry of waking someone up or anything. And my room is so much better-lit than my old dorm, so that alone somehow makes me feel more productive, somehow.
I need a summer project (besides working) so I'm thinking of volunteering at the 826 here. I might need to tweak my work schedule a bit but I really hope I have enough time to do it! I love the whole McSweeney's family and 826 totally feels like my bag.
Things that are making me broke: housewares, groceries.
